In 1971, Dorsey Chapel’s congregation merged with Perkins Memorial’s (q.v.) congregation when it could no longer support a minister. Dorsey Chapel became a Designated Historic Site on Nov. 21, 1989. The variant name Dorsey Church was collected during the initial data compilation (Phase I) from the 1:24,000 scale topographic maps of the U.S. Geological Survey.
